I have just published this blog post (http://bit.ly/IO1nMz) about Instagram and Facebook, trying to write down a few lines about what happened last monday. I really don't think it is a great deal. However I know that there are many of you that think in the opposite way, so I would like to know from you if a billion dollar deal is worth it.
I have come to the ultimate conclusion that you are a crazy, psychopathic serial killer that eats baby kittens. INSTAGRAM WAS WORTH A BIG ZEEEERROOOOOOOOO. Potential is worth nothing until executed upon. It does not matter what instagram could have been, because that is what it never became. From day 1 to acquisition instagram never made a single dime. Thus they should not be worth a single dime.
I completely agree with you. I don't think that Instagram was worth it 1B and I really don't believe that it was the first threat to Facebook in the mobile market. However Zuckerberg decided to double its evaluation. Maybe they sold the company because they didn't know how to monetize the thing.
How the rich live, eh? I really don't see the point in facebook aquiring it unless it's something IPO related (which I haven't been following). Facebook could of created a better service and got a better brand name, more users, etc for a fraction of the cost.
Cool.
You made some interesting points in the article.
About Facebook making a bad move in purchasing Instagram, I think one of their main motivations was to acquire the team and their technological platform. A team like Instagram's is worth a hell of a lot.
