Amazon Payments

Hey guys! I run a business, and need to use Amazon Payments. Since I'm not 18, Amazon has disabled my account. Any idea how I can get back up and running either with my own info or my parents (they don't want the info to appear on their tax returns) Thanks!

Amazon... could you not use paypal? I think after so much paypal will need to verify you, but I guess you can close the account before then. Otherwise for stability, you could look into opening a paypal business (don't think it asks for age).

I don't really know much about amazon payments, perhaps you could contact them and explain your a student entrepreneur and ask why you can't use their service...

Sorry that I couldn't help you much further! I'll take a look at Amazon payments for you though.

Sure, that'd be great. I have to use Amazon Payments because it is the only option I have with the processor I am using... I have told them I'm not 18, and they have blocked my account. Like I said, my parents would be open to having an account in their name, but want the tax returns to go either under my or the business' name. Thanks!

Ah that's a nuisance! I've been reading Amazon Payments terms of service, and all the other legal jargon, and as you're aware it does say if your under 18 you can only use it under a parent/gaurdians name.

As you say they don't want the tax returns to go under their name... I wonder if you could form an LLC and 'employ' one of your parents as say the treasurer or a director. I can't see why you couldn't not pay them or pay them very low wage like $0.01 per year thus it shouldn't affect their tax returns. I think if you went down this route be sure to check with an accountant.

I'll double check with a friend, who I believe got his father to open a paypal account in his fathers name but used his own bank account to see if they found out whether or not it affected his fathers Tax returns(I believe they consulted the bank).

Or perhaps find a partner/friend whos old enough to register legitimately.

So complicated for us young folks wanting to make a bit of money!

This is definitely the type of thing you'd want to speak with a lawyer about. You can form any type of legal entity in which you are the President and have one of your parents as the CFO. This way, your parents can sign up and use their name as the contact, but the account is for the company - both of which are legally allowed to hold this account.

Keep in mind, I'm not a lawyer and you should really talk to one. Just speaking from experience :)

Ben,

I totally agree.

Sam,

I know this is probably what you didn't want to hear as it will consume time, money and resources but unfortunately you need to know your parents are protected. If you can't or don't have the money to see or contact a lawyer or accountant then there are a few sites where you can ask lawyers etc questions. I've used this method once when asking a question regarding something which I thought wasn't worth seeing a lawyers in person.

Anyhow I hope you sort this out! Would be interesting in knowing more about your company in question!

Amazon Payments and Paypal will both shut you down pretty easily. I think you should seriously consider using Stripe.com
