Facebook Launches New Photo Viewer

Earlier today Facebook quietly pushed out a redesigned photo viewer tool. Instead of taking the user to a different page to view photos, the new photo viewer is a pop-out overlay that covers whatever you were viewing. Once you finish viewing the page, you can pick up using Facebook right where you stopped.

This pop out includes the photo on one side and a sidebar with description, comments, and likes on the other. Read to learn more about the new Facebook photo viewer!

Startup Marketing With The New Facebook Timeline

Startup Marketing With The New Facebook Timeline

This is a great follow up to a recent Facebook related blog post, and now that Timeline is public its true potential is shining. What’s so great about it? That big, beautiful, cover photo is fantastic for marketing. I realize it’s only on your personal profile, but in that previous post you agreed that your personal Facebook profile is as powerful, if not more powerful than a fan page.

What’s so awesome about it? It’s a huge (851 x 315 pixels) advertisement for whatever you want. Mine, for example, is my personal blog. It’s non-intrusive, fits into the Facebook color scheme and is big, bold and traffic driving. When you use the personal marketing / networking methods I talked about in my previous post and you add some SVAPs (Silicon Valley Awesome Person) as friends they’ll immediately see a link to your website, blog, or whatever and you have yet another chance to impress them.

Guide to Facebook Timeline

Facebook has done it again, but on a more drastic scale. The popular social networking website redesigned its user profiles, creating look known as “Timeline”. While the change hasn’t been universally implemented, anyone can enable Timeline. We’ve decided to take a look at the new Timeline and offer you with a guide on how to make the best of it.

Interface Changes

Some users have mistakenly said this was an interface only update. In some respects, this is true, but in reality it’s more than the interface that was changed with Facebook Timeline. Read to learn more about Facebook Timeline.

The Secret Social Media Marketing Goldmine You Didn’t Know Existed

Okay, I lied. You’ve heard of this social media marketing website, and you might have even read a lot about how to use it to market your startup for little or no money. There’s tons of tactics that may or may not work, but there’s one you’re completely overlooking. The secret website I’m talking about is Facebook, but before you stop reading consider that you might be missing the most fundamental part of social media marketing. What part is that? The social part. Not the faux million-member-page social part, but the truly social part.

When Zuckerberg launched Facebook in 2004, there were no pages, instead the site modeled real human interaction. Read to learn more about using Facebook to market your product!

On Monday, Facebook launched a refresh to their iOS mobile applications. This update included two major points: a completely revamped user interface and a iPad client. These mobile applications help to give Facebook a solid presence on mobile devices. As more people begin to use their mobile devices as their main internet access point, it is essential for Facebook to take mobile seriously. In my opinion, having a seamless experience on both the web and mobile device helps to make Facebook a very appealing product. Read to learn more!

As an avid social networking user, I have seen both the best and the worst of social networking. There are some individuals that know the extent of how much what we do online can be spread across the web. However, other individuals seem to post the first thing on their mind, following the post first, think later approach. Not only can a wrong post affect your reputation, but it can also affect your future. Many colleges and jobs may look online for more information on you. For the next three weeks, we will take a look at the basics to being a responsible and respectable Facebook user. Today, we will focus more on the aspects of a good Facebook profile.

Editors note: iPhone Spotlight is a new series where teens can share how they use their phones to get things done!

I’m Emmanuel Banks and this is my iPhone setup. At first glance, it seems quite average and random, but it’s actually more planned than you may think. First off, I must address the front page. I make sure to keep the front page just like how it was out of the box. It seems to irk me to see that page tampered with. So all of my downloaded apps are on the second and third pages. The Cool Factor

According to Silicon Valley folklore, when Mark Zuckerberg met with Sean Parker in the summer of 2004 he advised Zuckerberg to make two crucial decisions,: (1) have no advertisements; and (2) drop “the” from thefacebook.com. These two choices stopped Facebook from making revenue from advertisements and cost a pretty penny for the new domain name. Yet, these decisions were a major catalyst in the rapid growth of Facebook. Moreover, with these two decisions, Facebook continued to be ”cool.”  For Facebook, it was essential to gain a massive user-base before its monetization. Facebook embodies one of the core principles of having a successful product—what I will call–”The Cool Factor.”

Sadly, there are bad people out there who like to use our personal data for no good. What’s a better place to find personal information than someones Facebook? Luckily, you can make Facebook browsing a tad safer with one simple setting.

Most websites that use log-ins will use https:// rather than http://, for a logical reason. Simply, https:// is just safer. Why Facebook isn’t using this automatically we can’t understand, but luckily, it is very simple to change. Keep reading to find out how.
