Let me present a question to you. How many of your friends have texted while driving? How many of those same friends have you witnessed texting while driving? One, maybe even two? You aren’t alone, you are actually apart of the 75% of teenagers out there that find it a common practice. It may seem insignificant that they hash out a quick text while driving, but it’s much more serious than that.

Driving involves using many aspects of your brain and attention to ensure that you stay on the road, are aware of the dangers around you, and ensure that you keep pedestrians and fellow drivers safe. When you add sending a text message into this, a dangerous and potentially deadly situation is created.

Because of this common but preventable danger, AT&T is combating the problem with their ‘It Can Wait’ campaign. The campaign involves individuals making a pledge  to not only abstain from texting while driving, but also to not web surf, email, or watch videos while behind the wheel.

The campaign is very well known and chances are, you may have seen one of AT&T’s commercials involving the campaign. Despite these initiatives and even state laws combating texting and driving, you don’t have to sit idly by. You can help as well! September 19th is National Pledge Day and you can have your friends, family, and other individuals you know make the ‘It Can Wait’ pledge.

You can pledge on AT&T’s dedicated website, which allows you to ping your dedication to Twitter, Facebook, and through email. Also, AT&T has created a helpful ‘It Can Wait’ activation kit, allowing you to view and share helpful facts, posters, and other promotional material.

I made the pledge to ensure that individuals I drive with will not text and drive, will you make the pledge too? Let us know in the comments, on Facebook, or on our Twitter page. Also, don’t forget to share you pledge story with AT&T on their dedicated ‘Share Your Story‘ page.
