One of my favorite parts about Silicon Valley is all the events that go on a daily and weekly basis. One of my personal favorites is Startup Weekend, a 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile app which could actually lead to the formation of a company. I’ve been to numerous Startup Weekend’s, but this time, it’s MEGA.

From September 9th – 11th, over 300 entrepreneurs will gather at Microsoft’s Silicon Valley office to build what could be the next big thing. What’s interesting about this particular event is that it focuses on three different industries; Healthcare, Education and Gaming. Over the course of the weekend, teams will be building their products to present at the end of the weekend.

What’s even cooler is that startups who take the top prize in voting in each category (Healthcare, Education & Gaming) will display their work at the DEMO Conference immediately following the weekend from September 12th – 14th at the Silicon Valley Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara.

Startup Weekend is partnering up with not only DEMO, but Startup America to put on this event. The Startup America Partnership was launched at the White House in response to President Obama’s call to celebrate, inspire, and accelerate high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the nation.

I’ll be at Startup Weekend MEGA, so if you see me, come say hi!

Full disclosure: Microsoft and Teens in Tech Labs are partners.
