Brian Wong’s Kiip Raises $4 Million, Launches To The Public

by posted on April 11, 2011

We’ve been following Brian Wong, and his startup Kiip, for sometime now, waiting for it to launch. Well, today is that day. After months of being in stealth, Kiip’s plan has finally come to public eye. The idea behind Kiip is that when you play games, you don’t just want to play for high scores. You want to get rewarded for getting those high scores, and that’s exactly what Kiip provides.

Developers integrate the Kiip SDK (you can signup for it here), and when a user hits an achievement in the game, a Kiip notification pop up giving you a reward for hitting that achievement. It’s quite simple, yet very powerful.

Kiip already has onboard some killer brands like popchips, Sephora, Dr. Pepper, Sony, Carls Jr, and others in the pipeline. And, on top of that, Kiip has already been integrated in 15 games, reaching and rewarding over 15 million active players across the entire Kiip network. That’s pretty impressive.

And the fun just starts here. Just last week, Kiip announced that they’ve raised $4 million in Series A funding, lead by Hummer Winblad, with participation from Dave Morin, True Ventures and Crosslink Capital. As part of the funding, Hummer’s Lars Leckie and True Venture’s Phil Black will be joining the Kiip board.

Overall, this is a huge win for Brian Wong and the team over at Kiip. Back in September of 2010, Brian keynoted the Teens in Tech miniConference, and that’s just the beginning. You’ll find two videos below from Kiip about their product, and the launch.
