Startup Marketing With The New Facebook Timeline

This is a great follow up to a recent Facebook related blog post, and now that Timeline is public its true potential is shining. What’s so great about it? That big, beautiful, cover photo is fantastic for marketing. I realize it’s only on your personal profile, but in that previous post you agreed that your personal Facebook profile is as powerful, if not more powerful than a fan page.

What’s so awesome about it? It’s a huge (851 x 315 pixels) advertisement for whatever you want. Mine, for example, is my personal blog. It’s non-intrusive, fits into the Facebook color scheme and is big, bold and traffic driving. When you use the personal marketing / networking methods I talked about in my previous post and you add some SVAPs (Silicon Valley Awesome Person) as friends they’ll immediately see a link to your website, blog, or whatever and you have yet another chance to impress them.

Google+ Opens Its Doors to Teenagers

Just a few minutes ago, Google’s Bradley Horowitz announced on his Google+ page, that the service is opening up to teenagers. Previously, Google+ was only open to users who were 18 years or older.

Google has taken a very cautious approach on launching accounts for minors, including some new safety features, that really shows that Google is serious about wanting the best experience for minors on Google+.

Announcing the 2012 Teens in Tech Incubator!

In 2011, we embarked on a journey that would take Teens in Tech Labs to the next level — an incubator program exclusively for young entrepreneurs who were serious about building amazing products, and gaining real world experience. At the beginning of this project, we didn’t know how much work it would be, what innovative ideas teens would bring to the table, and what we would find. But we were very happy with the effort and commitment of smart young entrepreneurs and are excited to announce, just six months after Demo Day 2011, that we’re back – announcing the 2012 Teens in Tech Incubator program!

In 2011, we successfully incubated six companies including Codulous, Bubbls, MySchoolHelp, BuildACircle, C&M Studios and Workcrib, debuting them at the annual Teens in Tech Conference hosted at the historic PARC auditorium in Palo Alto.

Mezz Rethinks Local Discovery

A little over a month ago, Teen entrepreneur, Safeer Mohiuddin launched Mezz, an application that takes a new spin on local discovery. Safeer describes Mezz as,

A hyperlocal mobile application and platform that allows people to discover and share what’s happening nearby. Discover fun and interesting things to do, share your discoveries with everyone locally and feel the local vibe.

Simply put, Mezz allows users to share and discover things around them. Mezz achieves this by allowing users to share “cards” that include an image, location, and description. These “cards” are aggregated based on proximity to the user’s location and placed into a feed. The feed organizes cards in accordance to proximity to current location and time since creation. The Phases of Companies

skiing

I went skiing for the first time over the weekend. It was a lot of fun. I fell, a lot. I ran into some other people and some other people ran into me. I got back up and fell again. After a while I nailed that V shape you’re supposed to make with the skis to stop, and I thought I could go faster, then I fell again. The last run I completed didn’t involve falling at all. Yep, I mastered the bunny hill, and next time I’m on to that ominous intermediate hill.

Is this an allegory to entrepreneurship? Yes!

Gumroad Aims To Simplify Selling Digital Content

Yesterday, teen entrepreneur, Sahil Lavingia launched his latest venture, Gumroad. Gumroad aims to make the sharing of digital content dead simple, by using links that allow buyers to enter their credit card information and purchase the digital good. After entering their credit card information, the buyer receives access to the piece of digital content. The general idea behind Gumroad is extremely clever, since the sale of digital goods can be cumbersome and frustrating at times.

Review: Twitter for iOS

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple of days, like me, you probably have heard about the major Twitter redesign. The Twitter redesign is composed of a new website, as well as Android and iOS apps. The iOS application uniformly matched Android’s Twitter app. As of now, the response by the average user is surprise but acceptance. On the other hand, heavy tweeters are calling foul. Let’s take a look at the update so you can make your own decision!

Toggles and Design

As we mentioned before, Twitter has overhauled its design to be uniform across its web and mobile tools. The web version Twitter is exceptionally similar to the mobile application. Furthermore, both mobile clients, iOS and Android, match each other. The only outlier at this time is the iPad component; Twitter for iPad is expected to have an update soon.

This past Thursday, Twitter launched a massive design overhaul to their website and mobile application. Before this past Thursday, the Twitter website at times could seem clunky and difficult to navigate. As a result, I rarely used the website, posting almost all my tweets from the iOS and Mac apps. Twitter was long overdue for a sleek design that matches the 140 character ethos of the site.

Design

Aesthetically, the redesigned Twitter is absolutely gorgeous. The newest Twitter redesign follows a modular layout, where content is organized in easy-to-use boxes.

Last Thursday, one of the most popular websites, YouTube, launched a redesign. The feedback on this change has been mixed, with many individuals scratching their heads at how to use the new website. The popular video sharing website introduced a “fresh coat of digital paint” on the website, as a way of making the website simpler. If you’re still confused by all the new features, we are here to help you navigate through the new YouTube.

Layout and Interface

The homepage is the first major change that a majority of YouTube visitors will notice. As you can now see, the home page layout pulls the user’s focus toward the left sidebar. On the side, you see the various social additions YouTube has added. You also see a list of your subscriptions in alphabetical order, for easy reference. However, more customization can be found when clicking “see all”.
